Four Key Maintenance Precautions for Diesel Engines

Replace engine oil and oil filter strictly according to operating hours, with a full replacement cycle every 250–300 working hours. Only use diesel engine oil meeting specified standards; never mix lubricants of different grades. Check the oil level before each startup after shutdown. Insufficient oil will cause severe wear of mechanical components. Replace deteriorated or blackened engine oil in a timely manner to avoid faults such as cylinder scoring and bearing seizure.

Adopt pure national-standard diesel fuel. Regularly drain accumulated water and impurities from the bottom of the water-oil separator and diesel filter. Replace diesel filters on schedule to prevent sediment and water from damaging high-pressure fuel pumps and fuel injectors. Inspect fuel pipe joints periodically to eliminate oil leakage and air intake issues. Unstable fuel supply will lead to insufficient engine power and frequent shutdowns.

Fill dedicated antifreeze coolant for long-term operation; never pour tap water directly into the radiator. Maintain operating water temperature within the range of 75–90°C. Regularly clear dust and debris from the exterior of the water tank to ensure unobstructed heat dissipation. Drain all cooling water after shutdown in winter to prevent cylinder block cracking caused by freezing. Do not shut down the engine immediately after high-temperature operation.

Blow clean the air filter with compressed air every 50 operating hours. Replace the air filter in advance under severely dusty working conditions, to stop dust from entering cylinders and aggravating internal component wear. Keep battery terminals clean and tightly fastened without oxidation or corrosion. For long-term idle units, charge the battery once every half month to avoid startup failure caused by power depletion. After cold startup, let the engine warm up for 3–5 minutes before applying load. Full-load operation right after startup is strictly prohibited.
